Obituary for David E. Watkins

David E. Watkins, age 75, longtime resident of Colorado Spring, died February 27, 2015.

Born in Leavenworth, Kansas in a proud military family, to the late Juanita Lallis and CWO Curtis Watkins, he was the second oldest of five children. David's father and other family were members of the legendary Buffalo Soldiers. He is preceded in death by brothers Curtis Jr. and William and sister Phyllis.

David is survived by his wife Pat, sons Michael and Wayne, daughters Patricia and LaFern, brother Phillip, three grandchildren, and many special family members and friends. He graduated from Anacostia High School in Washington, DC where he named an All-American football player. He attended the University of Iowa then enlisted in the US Army and was decorated for his service in Vietnam. He completed his Bachelor Degree in Philosophy and Masters in Business from the University of Colorado. He joined the US Postal Service in Colorado Springs and was promoted to Postmaster of Leavenworth, Kansas in 1986. He was Vice Chairman of the Buffalo Soldier Monument Committee and served on various civic boards.

Services will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 East Fountain Boulevard at 11:00 am. March 7. Arrangements are in the care of Evergreen Funeral Home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
