Obituary for Janice Elaine Brewington

Janice Elaine Brewington nee Smith, born February 2, 1955 in Bryan, Texas, died June 4, 2019 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Janice had many passions including various types of volunteer service. She was dedicated to scouting with both the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of America, and truly felt called to serve in the Scoutreach program. She cherished her rights and responsibilities as an American citizen serving as an election judge and helped complete the census every 10 years as a census worker. The Catholic Church and charities served as the foundation of her religious and philosophical understanding of the world. She kept her museum and YMCA memberships current and made sure the rest of the family had access to these resources. She loved theater and song, making sure to share this love with her family including family viewings of Peter Pan and Into the Woods (before it was a movie) and she could sing a song with any keyword or phrase.

Janice also loved the environment. She enjoyed gardening, including xeriscaping, and recycling. She adopted a trail in the Garden of the Gods that she enjoyed taking care of and hiking with her dogs. She loved all types of animals including her rescue pets and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. She supported local businesses and artists, especially in the Old Colorado and Manitou areas. In her later years she served as the President of the family business Duetix Designs. She loved her family very much, whether they were near or far.

Janice was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. John and Alta Marie Smith, her brothers Richard and Murl, and her sister Beverly.

She is survived by her husband Gary, her sister Kathy, her four children--Sarah, Catherine, Don, and John, and her 11 grandchildren, Andre, Elijah, Catherine, Malouma, Nero, Judah, Western, Kane, Ari, Joseph, and Judy.

Always leave things better than you find them.
