Obituary for Alfred Joseph Rivera Sr.

Alfred Joseph Rivera Sr. was born to Felix Aguero and Ana Tenorio Rivera Castro on October 22, 1939 on the beautiful island of Guam.

Al served on the Merchant Marine from 1962-1966. Al had returned from the Merchant Marine and upon his arrival he met his beautiful wife Concepcion San Agustin. She was sitting at the kitchen table with her best friend Rose, Al's sister. Al quickly inquired about the beautiful girl at the kitchen table. Rose introduced them and Al took Connie to McDonalds where they shared a meal of double cheeseburgers. Seven months later, Al and Connie were married on May 28, 1966. From that day on, they have been side by side.

Al was a Master Chef specializing in Polynesian cuisine. Al worked as a Head Chef in his own restaurant, Penrose hospital, and at the Knights of Columbus. It brought Al extreme joy to share his island heritage through the delicious meals he prepared.

There was nothing greater to Al than his family. He was an honorable husband to his wife Connie and an admirable father to his son David Rivera and wife Esther Rivera, son Alfred Rivera Jr. and wife Sophia Rivera, daughter Esther Rivera Villarreal and husband Israel Villarreal, son Rodney Rivera and wife Shanda Rivera. Al is also survived by 21 siblings, and was a lovable grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Al held his Catholic beliefs with high regard.  He became a member of the Knights of Columbus on March 1, 1977. He dedicated many hours to the Holy Family Council 4636, he became a 4th degree Sir Knight on October 1, 1982 and was honored with the status of Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus.
Al attended mass weekly with his family throughout his life. He also visited the adoration chapel weekly with his beloved wife Connie.

Alfred Joseph Rivera Sr. peacefully went home to our savior Jesus on May 2, 2019. Though Alfred walked the golden path to heaven bravely, he will be greatly missed but always loved by his wife, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, friends, and his community.
