Obituary for Wayne Newton Long

Wayne Newton Long, 80, died October 22, 2018 at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Wayne was born March 3, 1938 in Refugio, Texas to Earl L. Long and Bessie E. (Wigington) Long.

He retired in 1976 as a Master Sargent in the United States Air Force having served 21 years, including a tour in Vietnam, where he received the Vietnam service medal and numerous other awards. He also flew 39 combat missions while serving in Vietnam. After the military he was a rehabilitation counselor, and retired from the State of Colorado.

Wayne graduated with an Associates degree from Colorado Techincal University, and then moved on to Regis University where he graduated with his Bachelors degree. Wayne also did his post-graduate studies at The University of Northern Colorado.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Linda (Dalton) Long; son, Michael (Gloria) Long, daughters, Cathy Long, Cindy Sanders, Wendy (Marc) Bellemare, Ronda (David) Chuoke; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Wayne's great-granddaughter Makenzie brought him much joy, and was the light of his life.

Visitation, 10:00AM, Thursday, October 25, 2018, and funeral service at 11:00AM at Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80910.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 South Hancock, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80903.

Memorial contributions can be made in Wayne's name to the Special Olympics.
