Gregory D. Gainey Sr. of Colorado Springs, passed away on July 23, 2018

Greg was born in Ft. Carson, Colorado to Joseph F. Gainey and Essie L. Gainey on August 15, 1979 at Evans Army Community Hospital.

Greg attended Mitchell High School, where he excelled as a star basketball player. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1997. After graduating high school, Greg attended Colorado Northwestern Community College on a full ride basketball scholarship.

Greg was a dedicated family man who worked hard to provide for his family. He was devoted to his family and friends, always putting others before himself.

Greg is survived by his grandmother, Zeater Paige, his mother, Essie L. Gainey, his wife, Kim Timmerman, children, Alexis Scarver, Gi'Niece Gainey, and Gregory Gainey Jr., his brothers Trevor Gainey (Tajuana Gainey), Joseph Gainey (Bessie Sims), and Timothy Gainey (Louise Gainey), nieces Unique, Unittie, Uniyah, Aaliyah, Safiyyah, Imahni, Nova, and Tedosha, and nephew Umari. Greg was also survived by a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He is proceeded in death by his father, Joseph F. Gainey, who passed away on August 19, 2009.

Greg was loved by many and will truly be missed.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Evergreen Funeral Home 1830 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, Colorado. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 3, 2018. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery following the funeral service.
