Obituary for Linda Arlene DeGarmo (Bignell)

Linda Arlene DeGarmo (Bignell)
Linda Arlene (Bignell) DeGarmo earnestly yearned for the moment she could be reunited with her parents and finally meet her Savior. On July 12th, Linda’s wish was fulfilled. She was born in Colorado Springs, CO, to Ray and Mildred Bignell, in 1954. Linda grew up as a missionary’s daughter in Guatemala with three wonderful siblings: Donna, Kenneth, and Carolyn. It was during these years her character and life’s purpose was nurtured. She was well known to all around her for her tender concern for others.

As a high school sophomore, Linda moved back to Colorado to attend People’s Bible College. During this time, she met the love of her life, Willis DeGarmo. They were married in December 1978, six months after they both graduated from college. Their family grew to include, Olive (McRae), Ray, and Darrell. As a mother, Linda delighted in raising her children. Her family will continue to cherish the memories of her selfless, unconditional love. She expressed her love and service to her family in a variety of ways including her delicious meals and delectable desserts. Her family has fond memories of her homemade bread, yummy berry pies, chocolate chip cookies, and cinnamon rolls.

Linda’s days were filled not only with being a wife and a mother but also in working with her sister Carolyn. Together, they cleaned houses and cared for the elderly for almost forty years. During these days, they enjoyed many discussions of their favorite books and recipes. In addition, she spent hours praying for and supporting her parents' mission field in Guatemala.

She is survived by her husband, Willis; her children, Olive McRae (Sean), Ray DeGarmo and Darrell DeGarmo; grandson, Jacob McRae; her three siblings, Donna Gordon (Robert), Kenneth Bignell (Maxine) and Carolyn Mattern (Darrell); several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 19th at Blunt Mortuary, 2229 W. Colorado Ave. Colorado Springs, CO 80904.

Those who so desire may make memorial contributions to Emmanuel Evangelical Mission, 1202 Adams Dr., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904.
