Obituary for Alvino Gutierrez

Alvino Gutierrez, 83, of Colorado Springs went to be with our Lord on June 28, 2018.

He was born August 16, 1934 in Topeka, Kansas, son of Agapita and Miguel Gutierrez. Alvino lived in Topeka, Kansas until 1973 where he worked as a Machinist for the Santa Fe Railroad. However, he decided to temporarily leave Topeka to serve his country by joining the United States Marines from 1951 – 1953. During this tenure he participated in the Korean War where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He then returned to Topeka where he resumed his career with the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1960 he married the love of his life, Phyllis Romero, and began a family. In 1973 he moved his family to Portland, Oregon to attend Upholstery School. Upon graduation he moved his family to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he spent the rest of his life. He worked as an Upholsterer and also worked for School District 20.

Alvino enjoyed playing horse shoes, poker, eating peanuts, and going fishing. His most enjoyment came every Sunday morning when he would attend Mass and worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Alvino is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Phyllis Gutierrez (Lawrence, KS), son Mike (Misti) Gutierrez (Colorado Springs, CO), daughters Lisa (James) Cisneros (Colorado Springs, CO), and Cindy (Al) Malone (Colorado Springs, CO). In addition, Alvino leaves behind grandsons Derek and Nicholas Cisneros; Brandon, Ryan, and Justin Malone; Travis and Tyler Gutierrez. In addition, granddaughters Amber Gutierrez and Samantha Cisneros. Great grand-children Kassandra Perez and Xander Gutierrez. Brothers Jessie, Hank, and Thomas Gutierrez. Sisters Lucy Vigil, Susan Romero, Jennie and Agapita Perez.

Alvino is preceded in death by his mother, Agapita Gutierrez, father, Miguel Gutierrez, brother, Mike Gutierrez, sisters, Guadalupe Gutierrez and Delores Garcia.

The Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, July 3rd 2018 at 10:00 am at Holy Apostles Catholic Church. Location: 4925 North Carefree Circle, Colorado Spring CO, 80917.

Interment will follow immediately following the Memorial Service. Location: Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 South Hancock Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
