Obituary for Maloa Browne Read

Maloa Belle Current, the fourth child of Park and Anna Current, was born October 9, 1916 at Colorado Springs, Colorado. She loved hiking in the nearby Garden of the Gods and Red Rock Canyon, and also made it to the top of Pikes Peak several times. She always loved the almost symmetrical view of the Peak from the old home place at the intersection of 32nd Street and Pikes Peak Avenue in the city.

A published poet, Maloa received her first honors in that line in junior high school when she was presented with a book of Robert Frost's poems inscribed to the " Little Poet of West Junior." She was also a member of the Girl's Glee Club. She graduated in the upper ten percent of her high school class, and received a letter in Spanish. She was vice president of the National Honor Society, a member of the Girls Athletic
Association and was on the staff of The Lever, which was the high school paper.

Maloa was married to Dale L. Browne on September 5, 1940 in Pasadena, California. She was employed for two years in the District Plant Office of the Southern California Telephone Co. Two children were born to this union: Richard Dale Browne, born in Altedena, California on November 16, 1943 who now resides in San Antonio, Texas: and Anne Maloa Browne Maestas, born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on
November 5, 1949, who now resides in Manitou Springs, Colorado. Dale L. Browne died April 11, 1967 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. On November 5, 1977 Maloa was united in marriage to Kenneth W. Read in Colorado Springs. Mr. Read died at home on February 16, 1978.

Maloa worked as a secretary for the Alexander Film Company, the International Typographical Union and was employed in funeral service for fifteen years; all in Colorado Springs. While employed at the Swan Funeral Home, she attended a seminar for women in funeral service in Evanston, Illinois. Her employer said of her, "She is a perfectionist. Her typing is perfect, her telephone technique is exceptional, and as a receptionist in dealing with all kinds of families, she is outstanding."

Maloa enjoyed her 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, her flowers, music and has attended classes both at the University of Colorado and Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs.

She was formerly a member of Pikes Peak United Methodist Church for almost fifty years, and while a member there she sang in the choir, was church pianist for a number of years, was active in Christian Endeavor and taught a class in Primary Department and acted as pianist there also.

She was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Lynn, Ira, Richard, Eugene, Irma and Grace. She is survived by son, Richard Dale Browne and daughter, Anne Maloa Maestas.

The family wishes to thank Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care as well as The Union Printers Home for their gift of love and support.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 27th at Blunt Mortuary at 10:00 A.M.
