Obituary for Alan Richard Nanninga

Alan Richard Nanninga, age 83, long time resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 18, 2015. He passed away at home with his loving family by his side. He was foremost, a dedicated witness for Christ. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

Alan was born in Manhattan, Kansas on March 30, 1932 to Albert G. and Hilma Nordgren Nanninga. He lived with his parents and brother Gary and sister Valerie on the family farm near Concordia, Kansas until he left for Kansas University from 1949-1953.

Alan was pre-deceased by his parents, as well as his brother, Gary L. Nanninga who was Alan's business partner for 57 years.

He married Patricia Rupert from Russell Kansas in 1952, and is survived by his wife of 63 years. Alan is also survived by their four children, Gayle (Charlie) Mason, Mark, Mary Presley, and Anne (Barry) Patterson. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Jill (Chad) Bowman, David S. Mason (Chelsey), Sarah Mason; Lauren (Beau) Kelly, Kevin Patterson and Hayley Patterson, Matthew Presley, and Zach Nanninga.
Great grandchildren include Rachel, Lindsay and Abbygayle Bowman and Quinn Mason. Alan is also survived by his sister Valerie (Dr. Calvin) Siebert and a niece, nephews, and several cousins.

In 1954-1956, Alan was a purchasing and contracting officer at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. In April of '56, he and brother Gary were appointed Ford dealers in 2 dealerships in the Wichita, Kansas area. In 1963, both families moved to Colorado Springs where they operated used car lots, rental car agencies, tour and transportation companies, an auto auction in Security, CO, and a truck body distributorship. Alan continued to work part time even though his health started to deteriorate in 2006 .

Alan was a long time evangelical Christian and a student of Bible prophecy. His hospital stays in Penrose Main on the 4th floor earned him the honorary title of "The Praying Patient" for other patients.
