Obituary for David Loyd Shrum

Long-time Durango resident and Fort Lewis College graduate (Bachelors in History, 1967) David L. Shrum passed away under hospice care in Colorado Springs on August 3, 2018.

David ran his own Durango home care business (Shrumco, Inc.) for many years. He was active in the Durango local theater scene for an extended time and was a Colorado native. He graduated from Denver’s Lincoln High School in 1963.

David was an independent minded personality who was a Navy veteran (Diver), an American patriot, and was enshrined into the Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame for his prowess as a nationally ranked gymnast in the mid 1960.

His career took him to many places; Hawaii, Florida, Utah, Vietnam, Antigua, Durango, Grand Junction, and Colorado Springs.

David is survived by sister; Becky (Jon) Medved, brothers; Peter and James Shrum, Step-siblings; Ernie Smith, Chris (Cindy) Smith, Jani (Buzz) Korth, Megan (Luke) Stavrowski, Robin (Robbie)., nieces; Chelli Lalik and Kate Medved, nephews; Shane Smith and JP Medved, and numerous step-relatives and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother; Margie Shrum, father; Paul Shrum, wife; Gerri Shrum, and sister; Dianne Smith.
