Obituary for Maurice Prater

Maurice Prater of Colorado Springs passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 14th.

Maurice was born in Starkville, Mississippi to Albert Prater and Fannie Young on August 26, 1932.

He joined the Army and served with distinction in the Korean War. Maurice loved building things and working in the yard. He especially enjoyed planting and maintaining his garden and beautiful flowers.

Maurice went to work at the AIr Force Academy in the cadet dining hall and eventually went to work at Peterson Air Force Base where he retired after 23 years of service.

Maurice is survived by his wife of 63 years, Josie; daughters Arlene (Roger) Benniefield and Virginia Ann (James) Wallace; son Steven M. (Karen) Prater; brother George Prater; sister Annie L. Wilson; 7 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Evergreen Funeral Home 1830 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, Colorado followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the service. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
