Obituary for Levy Roland "Geno, Val" Valdez

Levy (Geno, Val) Roland Valdez
11-18-1928 to 12-31-2011

Levy (Geno, Val) Roland Valdez, age 83, passed away on December 31,
2011 in Colorado Springs.  Levy was born November 18, 1928 in Caupin,
Colorado, a son of Fred and Abelina (Trujillo) Valdez.  He was a
Commander in the United States Navy as an underwater demolitions
team/Seal team 9. He was interred for 18 months in a Chinese prison
camp during the Korean War. He later transferred and retired from the
United States Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant.  Military honors
will be provided.

He prided himself with his home, lawn (soft as a carpet), first to be
green in the spring/last to be brown in the winter/flowers.   He
enjoyed helping family, friends and neighbors.

Mr. Valdez is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Barbara (Tony
Noto) Valdez, Beverly (Andrew) Hartmann and Lori (Paul) King; sisters,
Margaret Malin and Olive Valdez; brother, Steven (Sylvia) Valdez;  5
grandchildren (Ephremn Bennett, Adrian Kuhnsman, Heather Thorpe, Justin
King, Meagan Hartmann), 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces &
nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son (Jon Michael),
his first wife (Betty), a sister (Tillie Martinez) and 3 brothers
(Orlando, Lawrence, Fred).

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with Rosary at 7:00 PM,
Thursday, January 5, 2012 located at Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 East
Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. Mass of Christian
Burial will be held at 9:30 AM, Friday, January 6, 2012 at Divine
Redeemer Church, 927  N. Logan Avenue, Colorado Springs with interment
to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock, Colorado Springs.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Pikes Peak
Hospice, 825 East Pikes Peak Avenue #600, Colorado Springs, Colorado
80903.
