Our Heritage

Our Heritage

George Blunt was followed into the business by his son, C. Harry Blunt, Sr., while C. Harry Blunt Sr. continued on the business, He was also a leader in the community, and was the Mayor of Colorado Springs from 1951 until 1957. Harry's C. Harry Jr., followed the path of his dad into the funeral business. Harry Jr. conducted the business until a stroke forced him to sell to a longtime employee, Ed Shouse, who had worked for Harry Blunt Sr. for many years. When Mr. Shouse was ready to retire in 1987 after many years of service and dedication to the community, he wanted Blunt Mortuary to stay family owned. Mr.Shouse sold the mortuary to another long time resident and business owner in Colorado Springs, Milton Steinkruger. Mr. Steinkruger, was the owner of the Evergreen Funeral Home, which he started in Colorado Springs in 1972. When Mr. Steinkruger was ready to retire in 2003, it was also his desire to keep the businesses family owned, so he sold the family businesses to another longtime family firm, Holt Family Funeral Home of Canon City, Colorado. William C. “Bill” Holt Jr. is owner of the firm that was started by his grandfather in 1920 in Florence, Colorado. Bill's son, Trey, and daughter, Beth, now bring a fourth generation into the family owned funeral and cremation business.
